19 Jan 1906 Scott Co. Argus Mrs. Anna Jane Brown died at her home at Eden Prairie, aged H4 years, after a long illness. She was born in Ireland and came to Minnesota in 1867 and settled at Eden Prairie which has since been her home. She is survived by five children James A,, Robert, George, John W. and Mrs. John Gamble. The funeral was held Thursday, Jan. 18, at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Asa Ferry conducting the services, and the interment was at Pleasant Hill cemetery, Eden Prairie. 12 June 1924 Shakopee Tribune Friends of James A, Brown, learned with regret of his death which occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. Steenson in Minneapolis last Saturday night. He was in the seventy fifth year of his life and lived for more than fifty years in Eden Prairie where he was one of the community's most widely known and respected citizens. Mr, Brown had not been feeling well for the past year but his condition was not thought to be of a serious nature until a week before his death which was caused by a complication of diseases. James A, Brown was born in County Caven, Ireland., on July 8,1849. he immigrated to this country in 1866 and remained in Galena, Illinois, one year before coming to Eden Prairie where he spent the remainder of his life. He was married to Miss Mary Ann Dean in this city on March 21, 1877 and six children were born to them, five of whom were left to mourn his death. One son, William R, Brown, died last July. The surviving children are Mrs. Thomas Moad of Eden Prairie, Mrs. J. Steenson of Mpls., E.J. Brown of Los Angeles, Calif, T.D. Brown, Supt. of schools at Pine City and A.G. Brown, member of the faculty of Stout Institute of Menominee, Wisconsin, All of the children, with the exception of EJ. Brown of Los Angeles, were present at the bedside of their father when he succumbed. He is also survived by-one sister, Mrs. J. Gamble of Mpls. and three brothers, Robert., John and George Brown, all of Eden. Prairie. During his residence in Eden Prairie Mr, Brown was an active worker in all affairs of the community. He was the township assessor for 28 years and was for many years a member of the school board of the district in which he lived. He held various other public offices during his long residence in Eden Prairie. Funeral services were conducted at his farm home in Eden Prairie at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Stanley Roberts of Mpls. officiating, The ceremonies at the grave were conducted under the auspices of the King Solomon's Lodge, A.F. & A. M. of which society the deceased was a member. The body was laid to rest in the Pleasant Hill cemetery at Eden Prairie. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved wife and children in there sorrows. 12 March 1931 Shakopee Argus-Tribune Mrs. James A. Brown, a most worthy and highly respected pioneer citizen of Eden Prairie for many years passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Steenson., Mpls. last Friday morning March sixth, Mrs. James A. Brown (nee Anna Dean) was born in Chatam, Canada, on January 29, 1851. She with here parents came to Shakopee in 1855 and settled on a farm east of Shakopee. She lived there until 1877 when she was joined marriage to James A. Brown of Eden Prairie. There with her husband she lived and made her home until death called him in 1924. Since her husband's death she had been making her home most of the time in Mpls. with her daughter, Mrs. James Steenson 3501 Grand Ave. She is survived by three sons, E.J. Brown, Manhatten Beach, Calif., T.D. Brown, Mpls., and A.G. Brown of Menominee, Wis., and two daughters, Mrs. James Steenson of Mpls. and Mrs. Thomas Moad, Eden Prairie, also two brothers, Samuel Dean of Mpls. and Matthew Dean of Boise, Idaho, and six grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was an upright, Christian woman, kind, loyal and true, she had made many warm friends. She always took a keen and intelligent interest in the civic and social affairs of Eden Prairie where she had lived so many years and was found promoting those things which made for the betterment of the community. Thus, besides the relatives she leaves to mourn her loss a large circle of friends. The funeral service were held at the Presbyterian church of Eden Prairie last Monday afternoon. A large number of old friends and neighbors from both far and near attended the services which were conducted by Rev. Roberts of Glen Lake assisted by Rev. Walter Finch of Eden Prairie. Her remains were laid to rest beside the grave of her husband in the Eden Prairie cemetery. 8 Dec 1938 Shakopee Argus-Tribune John Brown passed away Wednesday evening following several months of illness at his home. Funeral services were conducted at his home at 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 at the Eden Prairie Presbyterian church Saturday, the Rev. James Steenson conducting the services. Mr. Brown was born in Caven County, Ireland, March 8, 1862. At the age of 4 years he accompanied his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Brown, his three brothers James, George and Robert and sister Mary to America. At the end of their 26 day voyage across the Atlantic, they landed in Galena, Ill. The following year the family moved to Eden Prairie where Mr. Brown has resided ever since. Taking an active part in community affairs, Mr. Brown was town board supervisor for 15 years and as a young man joined the Eden Prairie Presbyterian church in which he served as a ruling elder for 43 years. On March 14, 1900, he was married to Amy Smith of Norwood. To this union two children were born, a daughter Irene Clark, and son Gilbert of Osseo. Mrs. Brown died July 15, 1921. On December 6, 1922, he united in marriage to Juliette Clough who passed away four and one half years later. Surviving him are his present wife, Isabel, two children, Mrs. Clifford Clark of Mpls: and a son Gilbert Brown. One brother, Robert, of Eden Prairie and four grandchildren. Burial was held at the Pleasant Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Gibson, Jesse Pascal, Mpls.; Tom Clark, Elmer Clark, Geo. Moran and Bert Arents.
