Feb 14, 1952 Shakopee Argus-Tribune John H. Clapperton, 85, a resident of Eden Prairie for the past 20 years, died Feb. 6 at University Heart hospital in Mpls. Services were held Friday, Feb 8, from the Eden Prairie Methodist church of which he was a lay leader. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. John H. Wollin officiated in the absence of Rev H.I. Munson. Mr. Clapperton was born Nov 20, 1868, at Maria, Quebec, Canada. He was graduated from DeLaSalle University and was engaged in the sales and advertising business in New York and Mpls. before settling in Eden Prairie. He suffered from heart disease for 18 months before death came on Feb. 6. Showing a deep interest in people and church work. Mr. Clapperton's mind remained alert during his entire life. In 1947, when Eden Prairie Methodist church commemorated it's 100th anniversary, he compiled a history of the church and it's congregation. Survivors include his wife, Sophie; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Young of Mpls; and two brothers, Thomas and George Clapperton of Quebec, Canada. Feb 19, 1953 Shakopee Argus-Tribune Hulda Sophie Clapperton, 82, for 20 years a resident of Eden Prairie, died at the Walker Methodist home, Mpls., at 5:16 A.M. Saturday, Feb. 14. She had been critically ill for 12 days. The funeral was held from the Phillip Funeral home and services were conducted by Rev. John Wollin at the Eden Prairie Methodist church at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, Feb. 16. Pallbearers were Elmer Moran, George Moran, Lorman Jarrett, Frank Schmidel, Harold Zell and Rudy Berger. Interment was in the Eden Prairie Methodist cemetery. Mrs. Clapperton, the former Hulda Peterson, was born in Sweden, Feb. 8, 1871. She spent her early years there. She was married to John H. Clapperton Oct 31, 1901. Mr. and Mrs. Clapperton moved to a farm about 20 years ago where they had since resided. In 1941 they joined the Methodist church while Rev. Hamrin was the pastor. Mrs. Clapperton was a valued member of the Royal Neighbors of America, the Methodist Ladies Aid and the Methodist Women's Society for Christian service. Surviving Mrs. Clapperton are a son Clarence and a daughter Mrs. Walter Young of Mpls. She is also survived by two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. Clapperton preceded his wife in death about a year ago.
