Dec. 28, 1899 Scott Co. Argus Died- MITCHELL- At his home in Eden Prairie, Monday, Dec. 25,1899, Alexander Mitchell, aged sixty eight-years. The deceased was one of the early settlers of Eden Prairie and circle of acquaintance was correspondingly wide. He died full of years, and rich with the love of a large and comfortably situated family and the respect of friends without number. His companion through a long and happy wedded life was formerly a Dean, and she, with nine children, all grown to man and womanhood, survive him. The funeral took place from the Eden Prairie Presbyterian church yesterday, at noon. Rev. A.W. Wright, of this city, conducting the services, and the remains were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of relatives and friends, who thus sought to pay tribute to a noble character and well spent life. Dec. 29, 1899 Shakopee Tribune Alexander Mitchell, aged 68 years, died at his home in Eden Prairie, Christmas afternoon. Deceased was well known here. The funeral was held Wednesday at that hamlet. April 17, 1925 Shakopee Argus Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Mitchell, 78 years old, pioneer resident of Eden Prairie, since her marriage more than 50 years ago, were conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Eden Prairie Methodist church, Rev. Dr. Kester of Minneapolis officiating. Mrs. Mitchell came to Minnesota in 1855, settling in Eagle Creek, Scott Co. Her husband Alexander Mitchell, died 26 years ago. Surviving are four sons, Alexander and Nelson Mitchell of Eden Prairie, Ralph Mitchell, Grand Meadow and Howard Mitchell, Park Rapids; two daughters, Miss Lizzie Mitchell, at home and Mrs. Alonzo McCoy, Browns Valley, and 15 grand children. Mrs. Mitchell was held in the highest esteem in the community where she had lived so long, and the sympathy of their many friends is extended to the bereaved family. April 16, 1925 Shakopee Tribune PIONEER LADY PASSES AWAY Mrs. Sarah Mitchell of Eden Prairie Was Called to Eternity Easter Sunday Pneumonia caused the death of Mrs. Sarah Mitchell, pioneer resident of this community and cousin of John and James E. Dean of this city, who passed away about midnight last Sunday, April 12, at her home in Eden Prairie. She was seventy-eight years of age. Mrs. Mitchell, nee Miss Sarah Dean, was the Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Dean, who, at the time of her birth, on January 3, 1847, resided in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. When the deceased was eight years of age, she came to Minnesota with her parents and the family settled in Eagle Creek, Scott Co., where the departed grew to womanhood and on Dec. 5, 1861, became the bride of Alexander Mitchell of Eden Prairie. After their marriage the couple went to Eden Prairie where they settled on a farm which has been the family home continuously since. Mr. Mitchell passed away on Christmas day 26 years ago. Deceased is mourned by six children, four sons and two daughters. They are Alexander and Nelson J. Mitchell of Eden Prairie; Dr. Ralph S. Mitchell of Grand Meadow; Howard W. Mitchell of Park Rapids; Mrs. Alonzo McCoy of Roberts Co., Dakota and Elizabeth Mitchell, who resides at the parental home. She also leaves two brothers, Samuel Dean of Minneapolis and Mathew Dean of Boyd City, Idaho; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Brown of Minneapolis. Fifteen grandchildren also survive her. The funeral, which was held yesterday afternoon, April 15, at 1:30 o'clock at the Methodist church in Eden Prairie, was very largely attended. Dr. R.B. Kester was the officiating clergyman and the pallbearers were John and James Dean of this city, cousins of the deceased, and the following four men, who are nephews of Mrs. Mitchell: Albert and Perry Dean, Truman Brown and Edwin Kraft. Interment was made in the Oakhill cemetery. (I think they mean Pleasant Hill, my Comment:) All the deceased's son and daughters and their families were in attendance at the funeral as were numerous relatives and friends from surrounding cities and towns. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Albert White of Saint Paul; Mrs. Maggie Dean, Mrs. Charlotte Steenson, Rev. and Mrs. James Steenson, Samuel Dean, Mr. and Mrs. W. Piccot, Mr. and Mrs. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Dean, Wm. Anderson and Mrs. Campbell, all of Minneapolis; Mrs. Anna Brown of Eden Prairie; and Mrs. W.S. Dean of Sauk Center. April 9, 1942 Shakopee Argus-Tribune Funeral services were conducted on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the Methodist church for the late Alexander Mitchell, who passed away early Thursday morning, following a paralytic stroke. Rev C.N. Hamrin officiated the last rites. Alexander Mitchell was born in Eden Prairie on Feb. 5, 1864, and at the time of his death had reached the age of 77 years, one month and 28 days. On Sept. 7, 1898 he was united in holy matrimony to Miss Dolly Caroline White and immediately began farming in Eden Prairie, where he spent his entire life. To this union were born four children, Raymond of St. Louis Park, Howard, Mrs. Rudy Berger (Ada) and Elmer Mitchell, all of Eden Prairie. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Richard Mitchell of St. Louis Park, and Betty and Marie Berger of this community, and three brothers, N.J. Mitchell of Eden Prairie; Rev. Howard Mitchell of Buffalo, and Dr. Ralph Mitchell of Grand Meadow. Three sisters, Elizabeth Mitchell, Mrs. Alonzo McCoy, and Mrs. George Oothoudt preceded him in death, besides his parents. Six friends of the deceased served as pallbearers, George Daly of Elk River, Edward Howe, J.R. Zell, John Hill, Freddie Miller and John Rogers. Mrs. Bergeson of St. Louis Park provided the vocal music accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Willette on the piano. Out of town relatives attending the sad rites included Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Mitchell of Grand Meadow, Rev. and Mrs. Howard Mitchell of Buffalo, Mrs. Donald Mitchell and Mrs. Wllis Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Berger all of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. George Daly and son Harold of Elk River, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Daly of Anoka. Review Pioneer of Eden Prairie Is Dead Alex Mitchell Dies at Age of 77, Born There During Civil War Alex Mitchell, life-long resident of Eden Prairie, passed away on April 2 at the age of 77 years. He was born on Feb. 5, 1865. Mr. Mitchell died of heart disease, the result of a stroke some time ago. He is survived by his wife Dolly, three sons, Raymond S. of St. Louis Park, Howard and Elmer of Eden Prairie, and a daughter, Mrs. Rudy Berger, also of Eden Prairie. He had three grandchildren, and three brothers: Rev. Howard Mitchell of Buffalo, Dr. Ralph Mitchell of Grand Meadow, and Nelson Mitchell of Eden Prairie. Funeral services were conducted at two o'clock Saturday From the Eden Prairie Methodist church, of which he was a member. Strobeck-Mart1nson funeral directors were in charge and interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Eden Prairie. Dolly C. Mitchell July 17, 1958 Shakopee Argus-Tribune Dolly Mitchell Funeral Sunday Mrs. Dolly C. Mitchell, 90, long time resident of Eden Prairie, died in St. Francis hospital here at 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 11. She had fractured her hip 10 days previous to her death. The funeral was held from the Phillip Funeral home and services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Ofstie and the Rev. Mrs. Tate at the Eden Prairie Methodist church at 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were Martin Grill, Fred Miller, John Morley, Homer Raguet, Harry Rogers and Harold Zell. Mrs. Mitchell, the former Dolly White, was born in Michigan, July 4, 1868. She spent her earliest years in the community of her birth. It was in 1896 that she was married to Alexander Mitchell, and following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell established their home in Eden Prairie where they spent their lives together. Mr. Mitchell preceded his wife in death some years ago. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by four sons and a daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Berger (Ada), Elmer and Howard Mitchell, Eden Prairie and Raymond Mitchell, St. Louis Park. She is also survived by four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. July 17, 1958 Hennepin Co. Review Dolly Mitchell Succumbs At 90 Dolly Caroline Mitchell, 90, died Friday at St. Frances hospital, Shakopee, following a stroke and complications of a fractured hip suffered in a fall. Services were Sunday afternoon from Phillips Funeral home. The Rev. Ofstie of Excelsior and the Rev. Eugene Tate of Minneapolis officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cementer. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Mitchell. She was a member of the Methodist church. Survivors include three sons, Raymond of St. Louis Park and Howard and Elmer of Eden Prairie and a daughter Ada Berger of Eden Prairie. Hulda Berger Feb 18, 1937 Shakopee Argus-Tribune Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m.,at the Methodist church for Mrs. Hulda Berger, who has been in poor health for the past three months, following an operation on her head in a Minneapolis hospital a short time ago. Mrs. Berger passed away Saturday at 3:30 p.m. She was born in Sweitzer, Germany, in 1863 and was married in 1885 to Max Berger. To this union three sons and two daughters were born. Both daughters dying in infancy. Thirty-six years ago she buried her husband , leaving her the care of three small children. Her oldest boy died in the World War. For the past sixteen years she has made her home here between her two sons, Fred and Rudy. Surviving also are 5 grandchildren. Pallbearers were John Miller, Nelson Mitchell and Arthur Dressen. Interment was at Pleasant View cemetery. Oct 16, 1908 Scott Co. Argus The marriage of Miss Margaret Lucas to Nelson Mitchell occurred Wed. afternoon, at 3 o'clock at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Lucas, in the presence of about 150 guests. Rev. Mr. Hardcastle read the vows, the full ring service being used. The bride was given away by her father. She was attired in white silk mulle and carried an arm bouquet of chrysanthemums. The young couple left for a short wedding trip, their destination being only known to themselves. They will make their future home at Eden Prairie. We extend best wishes for future happiness. May 13, 1926 Shakopee Argus-Tribune Mrs. Nelson J. Mitchell, one of the most highly esteemed residents of Eden Prairie, answered the final summons at her home, Wednesday morning, May 5, at three o'clock, after an illness of about three months with cancer. Mrs. Mitchell had submitted to an operation a year ago and for a time it was hoped a cure had been effected but the insidious disease made it's reappearance and medical aid failed to check it. Mrs. Mitchell was able to carry on her church work and household duties until last February and was up and around until Friday preceding her death. She was bright and cheerful at all times and fortunately suffered no pain throughout her illness. Margaret Lucas, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Lucas, was born in New York City, Aug. 20, 1871, and came with her parents to Eden Prairie when less than one year old. Her entire life was spent in that community excepting for brief absences while she was attending school in Mpls. and later teaching school for a number of years in Hennepin Co. Her marriage to Nelson J. Mitchell took place Oct. 14, 1908, since which time they have made their home on their farm. Mrs. Mitchell was a woman of winning personality who made and retained the friendship of a wide circle of acquaintances . Her interests were widespread and until last Feb. she was active in community and church work, the latter especially engaging her attention. She served for several terms as superintendent of the M.E. Sunday school and was holding office up to last Feb., when her final illness compelled her to relinquish it. She was also secretary of the Ladies' aid and a member of Shakopee Chapter No. 90, Order of the Eastern Star. She leaves to mourn her loss her devoted husband, one sister, Mrs. Stewart Gamble of Mpls., and three brothers, John Lucas of Winona, Ed Lucas of Mpls., and Robert H. Lucas of Eden Prairie. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Episcopal church, with a very large attendance. Services were conducted by Rev Charles MacNamara, a former pastor and Rev Geo. Butters, the present local pastor. Pallbearers were six nephews of the deceased, Leland and Robert Lucas, Raymond and Howard Mitchell, Dean and Judson Oothoudt. The remains were laid to rest in Pleasant Hill cemetery with the beautiful and impressive Eastern Star burial service at the grave, led by Mrs. F.J. Gross, worthy matron and John Hill, worthy patron of Shakopee Chapter No. 90. A profusion of floral tributes were mute testimonials of the love and esteem of friends. Among relatives who came to be in attendance at the funeral were Dr. Ralph Mitchell, a brother-in-law, and children Barbara and Donald, Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Payton of Grand Meadow, Rev. and Mrs. Howard Mitchell and children of Park Rapids, and a brother, John Lucas and son Ward of Winona. relatives and friends from other points were too numerous for any attempt at personal mention. The sympathy of friends is extended to the sorrowing husband and relatives in their bereavement.
